Soap Hollow--The Furniture and its Makers is the result of more than 20 years of study. Soap Hollow is a three-mile-long valley just south of Johnstown, PA, where the Amish-Mennonite craftsmen produced a distinctive group of stencil-decorated furniture from 1836 to 1924. The author inventoried 290 pieces - including 71 bearing the names of 11 makers.
